Playhouse Plans Offer a Wide Range of
Options
Playhouses for children have changed a lot in the past few decades.
The days of the standard tree house are no longer in vogue, which is
why having the right playhouse plans for your child is crucial.
Playhouse plans can be relatively simple to downright complicated
and intricate, depending on what your ultimate goal is. There are a
variety of styles to choose from, including the mini country cottage
to the Queen Anne to the mountain cabin to the Victorian and more.
While each of the playhouse plans will cater to a particular gender
or ambition, they are all basically the same at their core.
Skill and understanding the basics are important
Building your own playhouse is not for the faint of heart, nor for
the relatively inexperienced woodworker, especially when second
floors and stairs are part of the playhouse plans. Playhouses are
basically smaller versions of a real house and should be considered
as such when taking on this challenging prospect.

Many playhouse plans come with doors and windows, even bay windows,
which require a level of precision to install properly and seal
against the weather elements that are prevalent within every
community. The one major difference is that these playhouses won’t
have working plumbing or electricity (though if you choose to add
some electricity, you will need to contact your local zoning board
and a qualified electrician before starting the project).
Size matters
When you are considering playhouse plans, you will need to know you
local ordinances and zoning regulations before you purchase any
plans or even materials. Some towns will require permits and
approval for any fixed structure added to your property. There are
often regulations about how far from property lines these structures
must be and whether they require a specific foundation.
You may also be limited on the size of the structure you can build,
so be sure to check with your local government officials before
embarking on any major construction project. And a playhouse can be
considered a major construction project.
Pre-fab versus do-it-yourself
There are pre-fabricated playhouses as well as playhouse plans that
guide you through the process step-by-step, so you should understand
the difference. Pre-fab construction will cost considerably more
than basic playhouse plans, but they will come with all of the wood
and materials cut to specification. It can be likened to putting a
desk together that you purchased from the local office supply store.
Playhouse plans will have measurements and layouts for you to cut
and construct the playhouse by yourself. Many people prefer to build
their own projects; it offers a sense of accomplishment and pride.
For a playhouse, however, you will be required to build a roof and
be able to cut very specific angles for the beams and various angles
in order to create a safe and lasting structure. When children will
be playing in this structure, you don’t want to cut corners or
create a weak structure; you want to know that it is done right. If
this means hiring professional help to assist in the process, by all
means do this.
