Pole Barn Construction for Any
Do-It-Yourselfer
Pole barn construction is not relatively complicated. Most people
with basic construction and woodworking experience can build a pole
barn, but in most cases they will need at least some help. Pole
barns, at their most basic, are poles set in the ground with a roof
overhead. Siding as well as any number of other features are
considered optional and will depend on the requirements for it.
Pole barn construction can be ideal for horse riding arenas,
carports, a storage facility, covered picnic area, and much more.
Pole barn construction can accommodate just about any size
requirement, from relatively small to quite extensive. You will want
to check with your local zoning commission to learn about any
permits or requirements you may need to fulfill before starting pole
barn construction.
Options are nearly limitless
You can add a number of features to your pole barn, including
weathervanes, barn doors, attics, porches, skylights or window, and
more. The advantages to adding these features can be quite numerous.
One of the most appealing for many people is flexibility. When you
add walls, windows, doors, and more, you increase the options for
future use.

At the moment you may only be focusing on a pole barn construction
to store an automobile or some equipment, but in a few years you may
find that it is useful for entertaining a large number of guests, or
to set up a home office. While some of these features can certainly
be added on after the fact, doing so at the initial construction
will save time, money, and effort.
Economical
Pole barn construction is considered one of the cheapest ways to
build. It is also one of the easiest. Since you don’t need a
foundation, you will only need pressure-treated poles and concrete
to anchor them into the ground. Since walls are not a requirement,
especially if your pole barn will be used as a carport or a covered
picnic area, then the only other materials you would need would be
for the roof.
Trusses, roof shingles and nails, roofing paper, and 2x4s for the
frame are the only other materials needed for your pole barn
construction.
Location, location, location
Location of your pole barn will be important to determine before
designing a plan. If you plan on an open carport, for example, you
want to consider an area of your property that isn’t going to be
exposed to harsh weather on a regular basis. For example, if storms
in your region tend to roll in from the west, then having your pole
barn open to the onslaught of these weather events may defeat its
purpose altogether.
The nice thing about pole barn construction is that you don’t need
to have a perfectly level ground surface to build it on. You want
the roof to be level, though, so you can adjust the length of the
poles to accomplish this while the ground can be pitched.
Pole barns are ideal for any number of situations and due to their
relative ease of construction, offer a variety of options for any
homeowner
